 Legislative Luncheon 2012

Friday, January 20, 2012, Tennessee Technology Centers at Crossville, Jacksboro, Livingston, Harriman and Oneida/Huntsville came together to host a Legislative Luncheon honoring area legislators. The event was held at TTC Oneida/Huntsville’s main campus in Huntsville. The Center’s SkillsUSA students greeted and served approximately 25 guests.   TTC at Oneida/Huntsville Director Dwight Murphy opened the program by welcoming the guests to the luncheon. 

Those in attendance were Tennessee Board of Regents Chancellor John Morgan, Vice Chancellor James King, Vice Chancellor David Gregory, and Assistant Vice Chancellor Carol Puryear. Honored guests were United States Congressman Scott DesJarlais’ Field Representative Will Ridley, United States Congressman Chuck Fleischmann’s Field Representative Sandra Edmondson, Senator Ken Yager of District 12 and Field Representative Aaron Snodderly, Representative Kelly Keisling of District 38, Representative Dennis Powers of District 36, Representative John Mark Windle of District 41 and Field Representative John Robbins.Also present were Director Dwight Murphy of TTC Oneida/Huntsville, David Browder of TTC Jacksboro, Danice Turpin of TTC Harriman, Ralph Robbins of TTC Livingston, Myra West Assistant Director of TTC Livingston,  Jerry Young Assistant Director of TTC Crossville, Jeff Davis of TTC Knoxville and Roane State Community College President Dr. Gary Goff.  Other guests were TTC at Oneida/Huntsville’s 2011 Outstanding Student of the Year Mechelle Hamblin (a cosmetology graduate), Tennessee SkillsUSA Post-Secondary State Officer Anthony Hamblin of the TTC at Oneida/Huntsville (a computer information technology student), TTC at Oneida/Huntsville’s Student Government President Lindsey Newport, and TTCOH Institutional Advisory Committee Chairman Greg Jeffers and Advisory Board Norina Litton. Representing TTC Oneida/Huntsville were Student Services Coordinator Tim Smith and High School Liaison Counselor Misty West.

After introductions by TTCOH Director Murphy, TBR Chancellor John Morgan spoke to the group about the direction of higher education in Tennessee followed by Vice- Chancellor David Gregory’s comments on Legislation 2012. Next, Vice Chancellor James King spoke on the “Happenings at the TTC’s.” Following Chancellor King was  TTC Oneida/Huntsville’s SkillsUSA Post-Secondary Officer Anthony Hamblin.  Mr. Hamblin spoke to the dignitaries about his life and what led he and his wife, Mechelle, to enroll at TTC Oneida/Huntsville. He stated, “My wife has now fulfilled her dream of becoming a Cosmetologist and I after being an online student decided to give up a good full-time job to receive instruction from a great Computer Information Technology instructor –Rodney Stephens—and  unparalleled hands-on experience, state and national legislative exposure, and national technical certifications.” Chancellor Morgan and Vice Chancellor King led a question and discussion session concerning Tennessee Technology Centers, and the meeting concluded with comments from the six legislators and field representatives.
